HAJIMEMASHITE !
Yukimono was started in 2021 by Hisashi & Joséphine Furukawa. After they welcomed a baby into their life, they felt they didn’t have enough time to dedicate to Yukimono and looked into passing it on to another vintage kimono lover.
That is when I came in. I met Joséphine through Instagram where I fell in love with her graphic design work and we got to meet in person in Tokyo in 2023. When I heard about her plans to close Yukimono, I reached out to her.
I share with both of them a similar passion: the beauty of Japanese culture and the desire to preserve it with a modern touch.
That is why I am very delighted to allow YUKIMONO.cie story to live on.
I, myself fell in love with vintage kimonos when I arrived in Japan in 2018 and started to hunt beautiful forgotten gems. The young Japanese generation shows little interest in this garment. Like many ancient Japanese traditions, wearing a kimono is a disappearing practice, reduced to special occasions.
At YUKIMONO.cie, I personally curate every item to make sure that I offer the most interesting selection of patterns, fabrics, and designs. I believe that each kimono is a work of art and deserves a second life.
I am particularly keen on showing the versatility of kimonos and haoris which I believe can be worn daily and adapt to our contemporary lifestyle.
Wearing a piece from YUKIMONO.cie is like wrapping yourself in Japanese history.
